GIUNGLA COLD
Reading music blogs is something we've all become accustomed to over the past five, maybe six years or so; replacing traditional print media, and in some cases, live shows, as the A&R's first port of call. For us, real discovery still takes place in toilet venues, or lower down the bill at late late club-nights all over the world - anyone can log in to SoundCloud and find a song they'd like to write about. The more time we spend avidly following Italian blog Going Solo, the more we identify with their ethos - you should read editor Mattia Villa's excellent recent interview with HumanHuman about what makes the blog tick - and fall in love with their finds. GIUNGLA, who is beginning to make some waves in her homeland (also Italy, Bologna to be precise), is one of the acts the Going Solo guys are raving about just now, having spotted her supporting Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Her debut track, 'Cold', immediately shows why. Three minutes of thumping indie-rock with a twisted electronic pulse, 'Cold' makes powerful use of Emanuela Drei's visceral tones and jagged shards of guitar, and as Mattia points out, there's a twitchy, febrile energy to the track, which never quite allows you to settle - Drei leaping from one snarling lyric to the next. We're itching to hear more already. - DC
